Final Blog
Blogging has taught me a lot of things about myself as a reader. Blogging has taught me that reading at any level can be turned into a deeper level of thinking. The book and the amount of thinking you can do on it are not relying on eachother. I've read a variety of levels of books and blogged about them and the thinking I did on all were deep level thinking.
Writing online was a good experience for me because it can be liberating. Writing online can get what you want to say, out to a bigger audience that is harder to achieve in person. Writing online makes it easy to flow the thoughts you want to share with the world. However, writing online can also be limiting. Writing online to an audience means that almost anyone can view what you are putting into the world, and everyone can have different views on the world. Writing online is limiting because sometimes your opinion is not appropriate for society and isn't socially acceptable. Writing online can also be limiting because offending someone is something you want to avoid. I personally haven't run into anyone saying my blogs were offensive but an argument about the content of your blog isn't something you want in the comments.
I think that writing online can differ from who you are off of the computer. Writing online makes me feel like I have a clean slate. Sometimes things I say on my blogs contradict what the real me would do in a situation my character faces. I think it's just being online that makes us feel like we can say whatever we want. I think blogging is a very personal thing and because we don't know when our blog is being viewed we sometimes feel as if they aren't and that anything we say will be out there, so we're relieved; but not seen, because no response is given.
Lastly, I think that people say things that they wouldn't say face to face with someone. I feel like people use the computer and the internet as a place to hide when they want their opinion to be expressed in a way they know isn't going to go down well with others. People use computers as cover because nothing on the internet can have consequences that we see outside, and that is the biggest problem.

Romeo and Juliet essay
In the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet have a clear hidden relationship which is hard to maintain. It is clear that Romeo and Juliet have trust and hope as well as doubt in their fate together.
The sign of hope or trust in their fate together, by Romeo, stood out to me in Friar Lawrence's cell 2.6.8 "It is enough I may but call her mine." This shows that Romeo has gotten married and is committed to their relationship even if it is in secret. Having a marriage in secret or not secret shows a lot of commitment I think in this case, having commitment can be considered having hope or trust in something. Another time we see that Romeo has trust in their relationship comes a lot later in the play, 5.1.25 "Then I defy you, stars!" I think that it shows a strong trust in their relationship because to try and defy stars, something that is known and an icon of every night, shows just how powerful his hope is. This shows ways that Romeo has trust in their relationship.
There is also hope and trust that is shown by Juliet. Her trust and hope also comes out in 2.6.33-34 "But my true love is grown to such excess I cannot sum up sum of half my wealth." For Juliet's love to grow to such an extent there needs to be hope and trust that this relationship is something special and that's what we see here. Another time I think that we can see how Juliet has trust and hope in her relationship with Romeo is in 3.5.255 "If all else fail, myself have power to die." I think that this shows her commitment to Romeo because if she cannot be with him she would rather be dead. Nobody wants to die, so if she is striving to be alive, she's striving and has hope in her relationship with Romeo.
The doubt in their fate together comes before the relationship. There doubt is not falling in love with each other but doubting that they will fall in love at all. 1.3.103-105 "I'll look to like if looking liking move but no more deep will I endart mine eye than your consent gives strength to make it fly." This shows that Juliet doesn't think that she will fall in love at all. Romeo's doubt is shown early too, 1.1.246 "Thou canst not teach me to forget." This shows that Romeo thinks that he will never fall in love with anyone except for Rosaline. Both Juliet and Romeo's doubts of love come before they meet each other.
In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet both do have trust and doubts in their relationship together. Their trust in their fate overpowers any doubt that they have had before falling in love.

Reading Response: The Rules of Survival
In the book I'm read "The Rules of Survival", I feel like Matt the main character has some responsibilities that I don't think any regular teenager would look forward to. With a mother as crazy as his along with his younger sisters he has a lot to balance as a kid.
In this book I feel like it is unfair that Matt has to deal with the life he has. Matt has to take care of his sisters because at any moment his mom could lose it. She goes insane putting the well being of the kids into pure danger and gets enraged. Their mother is a hard situation to deal with. I think that having a mother who is like Matt's mother is hard because she is in charge and out of control. If the person who is supposed to be in charge and makes all the rules gets to lose control and break all of the rules, who puts her in place? The answer is nobody, and I think that Matt has been struggling with this because it's hard to fight back with your mom, whether she's crazy or not.
I also think that Matt's sisters do not realize how bad their situation is. The girls are just keen on staying out of their mother's sight when she gets mad- as if it were a daily routine. Meanwhile, Matt gets beaten and hit and hurt and left defenseless all because he's the only one who wants to take it. He doesn't take it because he likes it obviously, but because he has a big sense of responsibility and knows he must take care of his sisters.
All in all I think that Matt has a lot more responsibilities than the average kid. With all the things he goes through I find it hard that we could consider his life a childhood. The responsibility he has shows tremendous character, patience, and love for his sisters.

Post On Others

Attached is Amelia Olsen's blog. I think that her post "Mercy" is a great example of a model blog post because in her post she talks about not only the book but about the author. I never thought of going back to an author and linking the book to other books that the author has written. You can notice a lot of things if you go back and look from an author's first and second book.
I think that people should look at this blog post because not only did she look back at the actual author but she referred to the text a lot. There was no questioning what she was talking about because all of her evidence was right there in plain sight because she told you it was in the book.
There is not much to say about her blogposts. They are just good quality blogs and she is very consistent. No blog is less exciting or less interesting than the last. If you're looking for a mentor or just a good read going to her blog is a good choice.

Response: The Giver
Currently I am reading the book The Giver, and as I have just started there is something I noticed right off the bat: Everything in this community is organized. If you have read this book then you know that it's not the organization that is good, but it's more of an over-done organization. Everything has a function, there are many rules, and everyone is assigned a job based on who they are. Even your kids are chosen for you! I think that while being organized and everything having a place is nice; there should be more freedom and not knowing aspect to their lives.
The reason I think that everything being organized is good is because you can know where everything is, and have a quick easy job locating things, people, places and more. Being organized and everything having a place is nice, it makes people and things feel like they have a purpose and that they are important to the society. This is just one of the many reasons why being organized is good.
The reason why I think being organized to extent that the community in my book is bad is because there is not enough free will. People should be allowed to make decisions and make mistakes without being corrected by someone else. The whole point of living is to learn from experience and I think people in this community are being robbed of having a life. The most basic of things are determined for you, your interests, your job, your kids and family too! I feel like in this book things have gone too far. Too many people are missing out because of too much organization.

Reading Response: Grapes of Wrath
In the book "Grapes Of Wrath" by Steinbeck, one of the characters in the part I'm up to is named Joad. Now Joad isn't any regular guy, he has been in jail for four years on account of homicide. I think that based on the fact that he got out so early, a lot has changed from this time period to now.
The first thing that is definitely something that has changed since the past is the fact that someone could go and kill someone and get four years even if the other person ad a knife. I think that in today's society we count things for what we hear and don't let anybody explain themselves. I think that if he were to stand in front of a jury in 2013 he would've been sentenced to death/life in prison because no matter how you slice it, he took someone's life.
The second thing that I think has changed is that in the book hitchhiking is Joad's mode of transportation. In today's society we don't hitchhike because it is considered dangerous and nobody could trust eachother. Back in the time of the book, there were no real crazy people, a psychopath could get a lift so long as he/she didn't do anything to the driver. This shows the way things have changed.
As you can see, a lot has changed since then to now. I think that some things changed for the good, safety. On the other hand, I think that some things have changed for the bad and that is an area of improvement.;

Reading Response: The Hunger Games
In the book "The Hunger Games" Katniss as most people know, volunteers to step up to participate in a competition to the death in place of her sister Prim. This being the second time I am reading this I have been focusing on a smaller part of the book, the beginning. Katniss sacrificing herself for someone who she cares about really spoke to me because it was a brave thing to do and being brave isn't easy.
The first reason why I think this was something bold is because not many people would do it. In the book the whole district was shocked that someone would volunteer their life for anyone. How many people do you know would do something like this? The answer is probably very little if any, this is because being brave isn't always easy even if your being brave for someone who you should (in this case her sister).
Another reason why this was very bold was because Katniss stepped up in front of a large crowd. In life, a lot of people have stage fright when they aren't even on stage. How do we know if Katniss was one of these people? We don't but whether or not someone has stage fright or not, stepping up and being the center of attention in front of people is always difficult.
In conclusion Katniss's decision really did set up the book and with a bang. She did something bold, something only special people, people with a special quality could do. Step up when someone is in need especially when it's crunch time.
